Biebs, Bacon, and Bourbon

Yesterday turned out to be an excellent day. I worked in the morning and then David and I went to Radford st. in Studio City to find many food trucks waiting for us. Most notably the five-week old Lardon (pronounced “lar-DOAN”). I got a breakfast burrito that was larger than my stomach and heavier than my liver. David got the Baco Taco which is really just potatoes and cheese wrapped in a lattice of bacon.

Then we went to see David’s dog Max.

Then we went to Staples Center to see my sister and brother-in-law (not pictured, but just imagine a 6’4” Irish wall with a goatee and an Alfred E. Neuman tattoo). My sister is working on the Justin Bieber tour and although we didn’t go inside (too much Usher/Jaden Smith/crazy-ass tween girl traffic) the scale of the production was clear by the thirty buses and trucks parked behind the arena.

Off to Seven Grand for the quietest/most relaxed Bourbon Fix and Old Fashioned drinking experience I’ve had in a long time. I asked the bartender if the $1200 whisky was worth it and he said, “Not even close. I got ten behind me that are better and a fraction of the price.” He then described the $1200 McCallan 55 year (which sells for $14,000 a bottle) as an “uneven, sometimes bald, unpredictable” drink. I’ll take his advice and not buy it.

Then the Kings won in a shootout. We watched from ESPNZone on ridiculous TV’s while eating bad nachos.

Great day.
